ONE REASON TO USE AN INTERIOR DECORATOR

As an interior decorator, there's more to my job than just making your house look good.

Not long ago, I had an unpleasant retail experience. I’d bought a doona cover from a retailer as I had a gift voucher to use. And the doona cover was reduced. It was a retailer that I don’t usually use but, I thought I was getting a bargain! So I purchased it online.

But it wasn’t a bargain. After a few months of use, the doona cover was pilling. Little balls were appearing making it look old. And the weave was so loose that it had pulled out a thread. What a mess!

I contacted the online customer service and explained the problem via email. Following a few emails addressed to ‘Hey Katie’, I knew this wasn’t going to be easy. After sending many photos, explaining it wasn’t of merchantable quality or fit for purpose (my legal jargon came in handy), my dispute has still not been resolved. Aside from vowing to never enter the doors of the store (online or otherwise), it’s cost me time, money and unnecessary effort. So why am I ranting about this?

Well, it’s the importance of buying from trusted suppliers. That’s where an interior decorator can help.

I do more than just make your home look great

As a Melbourne interior decorator, there’s more to my job than just making your home look good! It’s about sourcing items from suppliers and brands that I trust. And if you see the item when we visit a showroom together, you can examine the pieces and ask questions so you know you are getting an item that is going to suit you. Buying a faulty doona cover is annoying but imagine if it had been a piece of furniture and the supplier wouldn’t assist to resolve the problem. If a piece of furniture does happen to have a fault, I will deal with the manufacturer and supplier directly.

My trusted trade suppliers

When I source items for your home, I prefer to use local trade suppliers rather than retail stores. They offer items that you don’t see everywhere and in some cases, are custom made. I have a working relationship with these suppliers or they have been recommended by colleagues. I know they stand behind their products. Trade suppliers keep me updated about their range and I regularly attend new launches to understand new products.

Can you afford not to use an interior decorator?

Do you have the time to search for the perfect piece of furniture, wander aimlessly through stores and deal with problems if they arise? Hey, I bet you don’t!
